Over the weekend, I built an entire Emissions Calculator app — dashboards, heat maps, Scope 1 & 2 reports — from scratch.
Total time: Less than 8 hours.
Coding experience: Zero.
And it cost me 0$.
Shocked? So was I.
During my master's thesis, I spent months digging deep into Scope 3 emissions — how to calculate them, how to help companies overcome the endless challenges along the way.
It was complicated then, and it’s still complicated today.
Back then, I tried to develop Excel templates for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. But every change in the data meant hours of manual updates. Every dashboard, every highlight — all built manually, piece by piece.
It was tedious. It was slow. It was frustrating.
So I shelved the idea. Life moved on.
Fast forward to today — the era of AI, where every conversation seems to circle back to "how easy things have become."
I decided to revisit that old idea sitting in my drawer.
The surprise?
In just 8 hours, with zero coding experience, I built a functioning emissions calculator app.
A tool that:
Reads Excel inputs
Calculates full Scope 1 and 2 emissions
Generates dynamic dashboards
Creates a heat map showing hotspots
Summarizes everything you need for reporting
It shocked me how easy it had become.
🕰️ Five Years Ago
I had the idea. I had the vision.
But I had zero coding experience — and no realistic way to turn it into a working tool.
Building an emissions calculator meant endless manual Excel formulas.
Every data change broke something — dashboards, calculations, everything.
Reporting was slow, painful, and fully manual.
Innovation felt out of reach unless you hired a developer or spent months learning how to code.
🚀 Now (Thanks to AI)
Data input? Drag and drop an Excel file.
Emissions calculations? Automated in seconds.
Dashboards? Generated instantly and fully dynamic.
Heat maps and insights? Built without writing a single line of code.
Idea to working app? 8 hours — no coding skills needed.
🎥 See It in Action:
I recorded a quick walkthrough showing how the app works — from uploading an Excel file to getting full Scope 1 and 2 calculations, dashboards, and a heatmap... all in just a few clicks.
Trust me, it’s worth a few minutes.
🔔 Why This Matters:
The gap between idea and execution is collapsing.
You don't need to know how to code.
You don't need months.
You need the right idea... and a willingness to explore.
If you're not experimenting with AI, no-code, and automation today, you're not just standing still — you're falling behind.
Imagine what you could build in just one weekend.
🛠️ How I Built It (Without Coding Experience):
While I had the domain knowledge — understanding Scope 1 and 2 emissions, calculations, and reporting requirements —
I had zero traditional coding experience to build an actual working app.
I had no idea how to program a backend, how to design a frontend, or how to build charts — none of it.
So how did I do it?
I used two tools:

ChatGPT — to help me shape my idea, define the scope of the MVP, structure the logic, and even write the prompts and mini tasks I needed for execution.
Replit — the main event of the evening. The execution tool. The converter from idea to app, kind of deal.
What is Replit?
Replit is like an all-in-one coding playground in your browser.
You don’t need to install anything.
You don't need to configure servers, environments, or complicated software.
You just open your browser, create a project, and start building — either by writing code if you have experience or simply guiding it with structured prompts and no-code approaches.
It handles everything — backend, frontend, hosting — so you can focus on creating instead of getting stuck in technical setups.
If you want to check it out yourself, here’s my Replit referral link.
(Highly recommend if you’ve ever had an idea but didn’t know how to start!)
Replit has a free version, which I used to develop the calculator. For sure you can upgrade your plan if you found it helpful. In such cases, I might earn a small reward if you sign up through my link — at no extra cost to you!
🌟 A Quick Note:
Before we wrap up today’s article, I wanted to share something important with you.
Over the past year, this newsletter has been all about sustainability, ESG careers, and practical insights to help you grow and lead in this space.
It’s been an amazing journey — and I can’t thank you enough for being part of this community.
But as I keep evolving, learning, and experimenting through my own career and projects (building apps, creating courses, launching content, diving deeper into AI and no-code), I realized there's an even bigger opportunity here:
✅ To share real-world projects and how to bring ideas to life faster
✅ To explore how AI, no-code, and digital innovation are changing the game
✅To talk more about career growth — project management, leadership, personal branding, visibility — because that's a huge part of success today
✅And of course, to continue connecting it all back to sustainability and ESG, where it makes sense
I want to take this community to the next level — and I’d really appreciate your feedback.
I genuinely love writing these articles, sharing ideas, projects, and experiences with you every week.
And I want to make sure you're getting even more value, inspiration, and actionable insights from every email.
I'd love to hear from you:
🗳️ Poll 1 – Are you excited about this expanded focus combining projects, career growth, and digital innovation?
🗳️ Poll 2 – What topics are you most excited to dive deeper into?
🔥 Final Thought:
The barriers between ideas and execution are lower than ever.
The possibilities are bigger than ever.
The only question is: Are you ready to build your future?
👉 Start small.
👉 Experiment.
👉 Evolve.
The future will be built by those who take action today.
P.S.:
If you're new here, or if you’ve been thinking about diving deeper into ESG and sustainability...
